Dangote Cement has announced a major $800 million expansion of its Itori manufacturing facility, a move designed to meet rising domestic demand while significantly enhancing the company’s export capacity to foreign markets.
The expansion, which will double the plant’s production capacity, also aligns with the federal government’s policy prioritising concrete construction for national road infrastructure.
Strengthening Nigeria’s Industrial Hub
Doubling the manufacturing processes solidifies Nigeria’s role as a leading industrial hub in Africa and encourages greater regional trade. The investment is expected to serve as a key element in the company’s long-term growth roadmap while promoting broader economic diversification.
Aliko Dangote’s Statement
In a statement cited by Vanguard, Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, said: “This $800 million investment represents another bold step in our commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base and reinforcing our leadership in Africa’s cement industry.”
Vision 2030 and Economic Impact
The milestone plays a vital role in reaching Dangote Cement’s Vision 2030 goal, which targets an annual production output of 90 million to 100 million metric tonnes. In addition to raising cement volumes, the expanded facility is structured to drive significant foreign currency revenue and create new jobs.
Once completed, the expanded factory will serve as a primary export terminal delivering premium cement throughout the continent.
Sinoma’s Commitment
Vanguard reported that Sinoma Chairman, Lin Zhong, stated: “The expansion of the Itori plant will not only increase production capacity but also strengthen Nigeria’s position as a strategic manufacturing and export hub for the African continent.”
He added: “Sinoma will deploy its world-class engineering expertise, advanced technology, and global experience to ensure the successful delivery of this project to the highest standards.”
A Partnership for Growth
The ongoing collaboration between both entities is expected to advance sustainable industrial facilities and foster economic growth across Africa.
