Nigerian business magnate and philanthropist, Chief Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun—widely known as IBD Dende—has received one of the highest civilian accolades from the U.S. state of Georgia, being officially designated an Honorary Citizen in recognition of his far-reaching impact on entrepreneurship, humanitarian work, and economic development across borders.
The historic conferment took place during a formal sitting of the Georgia State Senate on July 14, spearheaded by Senator Dr Donzella James, who represents the 28th Senate District. The resolution built upon a Special Commendation issued on December 1, 2025, which had already applauded Chief Egungbohun’s lifetime of service, leadership integrity, and transformative contributions to communities both in Nigeria and internationally.
Presenting the Senate resolution on the floor, Senator James hailed the Ogun State-born entrepreneur as a true goodwill ambassador whose character, vision, and compassion embody the highest principles of international cooperation, cross-cultural friendship, and grassroots development.
Accepting the honour with characteristic humility, Chief Egungbohun extended his heartfelt gratitude to Senator James, the entire Georgia State Senate, and the people of Georgia. He used the occasion to reaffirm his unwavering dedication to investing in human capital, forging stronger global trade linkages, and extending support to the most vulnerable populations around the world.
From Humble Beginnings to a Business Empire
Hailing from Ebute-Igbooro in Ogun State’s Yewa North Local Government Area, Chief Egungbohun’s journey is a classic Nigerian success story. After completing his primary and secondary schooling in his hometown, he ventured into business and founded IBD Farms in 2003. What began as an agricultural enterprise has since metamorphosed into IBD IMPEX LTD—a sprawling conglomerate with tentacles in logistics, hospitality, quarrying, and real estate. The group has become a significant employer, creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs while driving infrastructure development and economic activity.
Philanthropy That Knows No Borders
Beyond the boardroom, Chief Egungbohun has carved a distinct legacy through the Ibrahim Dende Foundation (based in Nigeria) and IBD Global Impact International (headquartered in Canada). These vehicles channel his philanthropy into scholarships, healthcare access, youth empowerment schemes, humanitarian emergency response, infrastructure support, business mentorship, and targeted assistance for widows and underprivileged families.
A Growing List of Accolades
His contributions have not gone unnoticed. The Yewa Traditional Council previously installed him as the Oluomo of Yewaland, a chieftaincy title that acknowledges his pivotal role in the region’s socio-economic advancement. He has also accumulated a wealth of national and international recognition, including the Green and White Champion Award, accolades from the City of Brampton in Canada, honours from the Oduduwa Development Initiatives, and multiple commendations for his service to humanity.
Observers note that the Georgia Honorary Citizenship is the latest jewel in an increasingly glittering crown—one that underscores his growing global stature and highlights how African entrepreneurship, when paired with genuine philanthropy, can resonate far beyond continental shores.
