How to retain the best talent
I had been exposed to the best work culture and bosses at the peak of my work experience so I have a positive and vibrant attitude towards my work. I never thought I would work in a toxic workplace until I found myself in an organization.
I remember vividly my first day at work in a particular organisation, my colleague had told me the entire history of the organization and I said to him “Why and what are you still doing here? then he gave his reasons and I thought to myself Dola, “Can you survive in this organization”?
I decided to study my environment and buried myself in the duties and responsibilities that were bestowed on me then I started to count down the days I would spend in that organization.
Since I was very self-aware of who I was, it was easy for me to perceive any form of toxicity from management and some of my colleagues who participated in office politics. I watched a lot of my colleagues struggle, treated unfairly but I was that voice to be reckoned with, I had results so no one could toil with me until the management played with my salary increment and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back, I provided my services in exchange for money.
After I left, I was so proud of my colleagues who dared to say enough is enough, I was happy when I received phone calls from those who had moved overseas and had the opportunity to work where their services were valued and appreciated.
The moral lesson of this story is as employees, we are valuable to any organization we find ourselves in, and we deserve to be appreciated for our services and time, you must also provide the services you have been employed and paid to perform.
