At the 36th Enugu International Trade Fair, Governor Peter Mbah reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to creating a thriving business climate in Enugu State, with a strong focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Represented by Deputy Governor Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, Mbah emphasized efforts to boost the Ease of Doing Business, strengthen infrastructure, and build partnerships that will spur long-term economic growth.
Held under the theme “Developing Nigeria’s Industrial Sector/SMEs for Economic Advancement and Global Recognition,” the event brought together stakeholders across industries, commerce, and governance.
Commitment to Business-Friendly Reforms
Governor Mbah highlighted several key initiatives aimed at improving the business environment:
- Ongoing reforms to remove bureaucratic bottlenecks.
- Strategic partnerships to unlock access to credit for entrepreneurs.
- A secure, investor-friendly environment to ensure business continuity.
- Infrastructure development tailored to the needs of modern enterprises.
“Our administration is focused on laying the right foundation for businesses to succeed and scale,” Mbah said. “We’re also transforming education to provide young people with the skills they need to thrive in today’s economy.”
NACCIMA Applauds Enugu’s Progress
Delivering a message on behalf of NACCIMA President Barr. Dele Kelvin Oye, Humphrey Ngonadi, President of the South East/South South Chamber of Commerce, praised the Enugu State government for fostering a progressive and inclusive business atmosphere.
However, he noted that national challenges—particularly in the power sector—continue to hinder industrial growth. He called for urgent solutions to Nigeria’s energy crisis, along with regulatory reforms and greater investments in technology-driven industrialization.
ECCIMA’s Milestone Achievement
President of the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA), Sir Odeiga Jideonwo, also lauded the Mbah-led administration for improving the state’s business framework. He showcased the ongoing construction of a 3,000-square-meter Exhibition Hall, slated for completion in mid-2025, which promises to boost trade show capacity and enhance investor engagement.
The new facility will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, making it one of the premier business venues in Nigeria’s southeast.
As the Enugu International Trade Fair continues to draw national and global attention, the Mbah administration’s proactive approach to economic development and SME empowerment stands as a model for other sub-national governments seeking inclusive growth.
