As global tech platform Glovo celebrates a decade of innovation, the spotlight is turning to Nigeria—a key market fueling the company’s next wave of expansion and impact. Since entering the Nigerian market in 2021, Glovo has become a critical enabler of digital commerce, entrepreneurship, and economic inclusion, cementing its role as more than just a delivery app.
In its newly released Yellow Effect Report, Glovo details how its presence in Nigeria has reshaped local business dynamics, contributed to the country’s booming Q-Commerce sector, and driven widespread adoption of digital tools. The report reveals that between 2021 and 2024, Nigerian merchants generated over ₦71 billion in revenue through the platform, with over 6,000 local businesses—from eateries and supermarkets to SMEs—leveraging Glovo to scale and digitize operations.
Founded in Barcelona in 2015, Glovo has evolved from a six-person startup to a Q-Commerce giant operating in 23 countries and 1,800 cities. Now part of the Delivery Hero Group, the company has processed over 1 billion orders and facilitated €18.5 billion in revenue for global partners, all while empowering couriers to collectively earn more than €3.1 billion.
Nigeria, however, is quickly emerging as one of Glovo’s most promising frontiers. The country’s Q-Commerce sector recorded a 76% year-on-year growth in 2024—the fastest across the continent. Glovo, with active operations in 11 Nigerian cities and Lagos driving over 70% of its activity, is at the center of this digital revolution.
“This report is not just about metrics—it’s a reflection of the shared progress between Glovo and Nigeria,” said Lamide Akinola, General Manager of Glovo Nigeria. “Our growth story here has been co-authored by thousands of entrepreneurs, partners, and couriers who trust us as their platform of choice. Nigeria isn’t just part of our journey—it’s shaping where we’re headed.”
Central to Glovo’s local impact is its sustainability blueprint, Grow, Give, Green, through which it supports over 2,200 small and medium-sized enterprises. These businesses benefit from digital marketing campaigns, online visibility, and access to new revenue channels. In fact, some SMEs now credit Glovo for up to 25% of their total income.
The platform’s community of over 2,400 couriers is also experiencing tangible benefits. Many earn double or triple the national minimum wage, while also gaining access to training in financial literacy and other professional skills. In 2024 alone, 80 riders completed Glovo’s financial literacy course—part of the company’s broader mission to promote economic empowerment.
Glovo’s integration with Nigerian fintechs like Paystack and Salad Africa has accelerated the nation’s shift toward digital payments. Cashless transactions on the platform surged by 55% between 2021 and 2024, underscoring Nigeria’s growing digital maturity.
“Nigeria isn’t just growing—it’s becoming a benchmark for how tech platforms can create value at scale,” said Reni Onafeko, Glovo Nigeria’s Head of Growth. “From billions in partner revenue to a culture of innovation, the impact is clear: when technology meets local insight, transformation follows.”
The company is also extending its reach through social initiatives. In 2024, Glovo donated more than 4,100 meals to underserved communities and supported food security efforts through NGO partnerships. Meanwhile, its Women in Tech program—developed alongside SheCode Africa and the Lagos State Government—trained 100 women in software development, business strategy, and digital entrepreneurship.
“Ten years ago, instant delivery was a bold idea. Today, it’s a way of life for millions,” said Glovo CEO and co-founder Oscar Pierre. “And with over a billion orders completed, we’re just getting started. Our next decade is about deepening impact—especially in places like Nigeria where the potential is extraordinary.”
As Glovo looks ahead, it reaffirms its commitment to investing in Nigeria’s tech ecosystem—championing innovation in Q-Commerce, empowering entrepreneurs, uplifting riders, and driving meaningful social change.
