In a bold move to accelerate the growth of small businesses across Nigeria, the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the 2026 National MSME Awards with a ₦1 billion grant initiative targeting 100 outstanding Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) nationwide.

The funding, part of the ongoing MSME Clinics Initiative, will be disbursed through the National MSME Awards, a flagship program designed to recognize, reward, and scale high-impact Nigerian businesses contributing to economic growth, job creation, and innovation.

Applications officially opened on April 7, 2026, and will close on May 7, 2026, giving entrepreneurs a one-month window to submit their entries.

About National MSME Awards

The National MSME awards is an annual and week long activity that is tailored to honour outstanding indigenous MSMEs. The week long activity captures the international MSME week, an Expanded National MSME Clinic, business exhibition/plenary session as well as a gala/award night to encourage MSMEs across the country. The MSME awards began in August 2018 and Subsequently in June the following years. So far, there have been five award ceremonies with over 40 verifiable winners.

In the past years, winners in the different categories have gone home with various prizes that have impacted their businesses and profiles – cash prizes, cars, and of course local and international media attention.

The reward for the awards has also increased from an initial 1-star prize which was a car in 2018 for the MSME of the Year winner to 10 cars in all categories. This is to underscore the significant relationship that has been established between the private sector and the Federal Government over the years.

A Call to Action for Nigerian Entrepreneurs

With Nigeria’s MSME sector accounting for a significant portion of employment and GDP, initiatives like the National MSME Awards represent more than just funding—they are a gateway to national relevance and long-term growth.

For entrepreneurs building, scaling, or innovating, this is a rare opportunity to access non-dilutive capital and position their businesses on a national stage.

As competition is expected to be intense, early preparation, strong storytelling (especially in the video submission), and proper documentation will be key differentiators.

Don’t just hustle—position your business to win.

Know a business owner who should apply? Share this opportunity and help them take the next big step.
