The Dangote Group, led by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has revealed plans to establish Nigeria’s largest port within the Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun State.
The announcement was made on Monday during a visit to Governor Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Reviving an Abandoned Investment
Dangote explained that the company had previously shelved its investment in the Olokola Free Trade Zone due to certain challenges. However, with improved business conditions, the project is now back on track.
“Our factory in Itori was twice demolished, and the second time, even the fence was taken down, forcing us to step away from the project.
Thanks to Governor Abiodun’s efforts, we are back. If you visit the site today, you’ll be amazed at the transformation,” he said.
Expressing confidence in Ogun’s business environment, he added:
“Your policies have created a welcoming atmosphere for investment. That’s why we are returning to Olokola to develop Nigeria’s biggest port.”
Expanding Cement Production in Ogun
Providing updates on cement production, Dangote disclosed that two new plant lines with a combined annual capacity of six million metric tonnes had been set up in Itori, while a 12-million-metric-tonne facility was established in Ibeshe.
Upon completion, these projects will increase Ogun State’s total cement production capacity to 18 million metric tonnes per year.
Boosting Nigeria’s Economic Growth
Dangote emphasized the crucial role of private sector investments in driving economic growth alongside government initiatives.
Governor Dapo Abiodun welcomed the renewed investment, commending Dangote’s contribution to job creation and industrial development.
“With the Itori factory nearing completion and the largest port in Nigeria set to be built in Ogun, today marks a significant milestone for our state,” Abiodun stated.
He also praised Dangote’s commitment to Nigeria’s economic transformation, highlighting how his efforts continue to create opportunities and enhance the country’s global standing.
The upcoming port project is expected to boost trade, improve logistics, and strengthen industrial activities, further positioning Ogun State as a key center for business and commerce in Nigeria.
