The Women Exporters in the Digital Economy (WEIDE) Fund, a joint initiative by the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the International Trade Centre (ITC), has officially launched its first call for applications to support women-led businesses in Nigeria, Mongolia, and the Dominican Republic. The application window runs from April 22 to May 18, 2025, with Jordan to follow shortly.

The initiative offers financial support, technical assistance, mentorship, and access to global business networks—empowering women entrepreneurs to scale their businesses through digital trade.

A $50 Million Push for Women in Global Trade

Backed by a $50 million commitment, the WEIDE Fund reflects a global drive to ensure inclusive digital participation and sustainable trade growth.

“Digital trade is reshaping the global economy. Women — especially in developing countries — must be at the forefront,” said WTO Director-General Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
“The WEIDE Fund is about powering innovation, job creation, and inclusive global growth.”

Tailored Grants for Growth

The WEIDE Fund offers two levels of financial support:

  • Discovery Grant (up to $5,000): For early-stage women-led businesses exploring digital trade opportunities.

  • Booster Grant (up to $30,000): For more advanced enterprises ready to expand their global digital footprint.

These grants are complemented by technical assistance, personalized mentorship, and integration into international trade networks, ensuring holistic growth and long-term sustainability for beneficiaries.

Who Can Apply?

Women-led businesses must meet the following criteria:

  • Legally registered and operational in Nigeria, Mongolia, or the Dominican Republic

  • Export-ready or actively exploring digital trade opportunities

  • Demonstrate potential for business growth and employment generation

In Nigeria, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) will serve as the national business support organization to guide applicants and help deliver the program’s objectives.

Strategic Partners Driving Impact

The initiative is being rolled out in collaboration with:

  • ProDominicana (Dominican Republic)

  • Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI)

  • Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO)

  • Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC)

Applications from Jordan will be invited in a later phase.

“This is more than funding,” said Pamela Coke-Hamilton, Executive Director of the ITC.
“It’s about removing systemic barriers and unlocking new digital trade opportunities for women entrepreneurs around the world.”

A Global Legacy for Women in Trade

The WEIDE Fund is made possible through the generous support of the United Arab Emirates and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Legacy Fund—underscoring a shared global vision to uplift women-led enterprises and foster a more equitable digital economy.

Women entrepreneurs looking to expand their impact through international markets and digital platforms are encouraged to apply now and take the next step toward global success.
