At least 400 young Nigerian women are set to receive a significant digital boost as TD Africa launches registration for TecHERdemy.
TecHERdemy is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative created by TD Africa, the leading distributor of tech solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa, aimed at empowering young women with the skills necessary to thrive in today’s dynamic digital landscape.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs, this initiative will offer 400 women the chance to engage in a comprehensive six-month training program focused on in-demand tech fields such as cybersecurity, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and software development.
Aligned with the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) annual “Girls in ICT” awareness program, TecHERdemy serves as a launchpad for recent graduates, particularly National Youth Service Corps members, to kickstart their careers in technology while gaining valuable insights into what a career in tech entails today.
The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Uju Kennedy, tweeted, “Another great opportunity from the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs for our women in Nigeria, in collaboration with TD Africa. This is a chance for young women interested in tech skills such as Cybersecurity, Data Science, AI, and Software Development. I encourage everyone to seize this opportunity and apply.”
Mrs. Chioma Chimere, Coordinating Managing Director of TD Africa, emphasized the importance of awareness among women regarding their future prospects. She stated, “At TD Africa, we believe technology is a powerful tool for social and economic advancement. However, we also recognize the significant gender gap in the tech industry. By investing in the education and empowerment of young Nigerian women, we are nurturing the future tech leaders who will contribute to a more equitable and prosperous society.”
In addition to the extensive training, TecHERdemy provides participants with unique growth and career advancement opportunities, including exposure to global brands like Cisco, Microsoft, and Huawei. Trainees will have the chance to secure immediate job placements or internships upon completion of the program through high-level engagement with numerous corporates within TD Africa’s ecosystem.
This initiative underscores TD Africa’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive and equitable tech landscape, aiming to bridge the gender gap in the tech sector and create a brighter future for generations to come.
