The dream of greener pastures abroad has fueled a wave of migration among young Nigerians, but media personality and former reality star Natacha Akide, better known as Tacha, believes the rush to leave may be misguided.
Speaking on the Outside the Box podcast, she encouraged citizens to reconsider abandoning their lives at home, stressing that Nigeria also holds untapped opportunities for growth and success. “Stay in Nigeria to check this country or to affect the change we want to see,” she urged.
Tacha explained that although countries like the UK offer functioning systems and infrastructure, Nigeria remains rich with potential. She recalled moments during her time in London that reminded her how much value her own country has to offer.
According to her, migration does not automatically guarantee prosperity. “If you already have a business, a job, a car, or a home here, it doesn’t make sense to sell those and start over abroad,” she argued, adding that many who relocate still encounter challenges and loneliness.
Tacha concluded by emphasizing that while life overseas is often portrayed as easier, the reality involves hard work, cultural adjustments, and social isolation. “It’s not as green as people imagine. Lagos, Nigeria, still has my heart,” she affirmed.
