LAGOS, Nigeria – May 1st, 2026 – In a major push to formalize Nigeria’s fragmented business ecosystem, SBP Ventures has officially opened applications for the inaugural Small Business Innovation Challenge (SBIC), a live, high-stakes television series designed to bridge the gap between grassroots entrepreneurs and institutional capital. The overall winner will walk away with a ₦20,000,000 Grand Prize.
Unlike standard pitch competitions, SBIC is structured as market infrastructure, combining a rigorous capacity-building bootcamp with a televised arena format. The initiative responds to proprietary data from SBP Ventures’ active business community, which reveals that over 82% of surveyed SMEs struggle with visibility, marketing, and customer acquisition—a bottleneck the challenge aims to eliminate through national exposure and investor linkage.
SBIC: The Search for Challengers
Effective immediately, SBP Ventures is calling for applications from early-stage and growing businesses across all sectors. Selected participants will be whittled down through a multi-stage screening process before entering a structured Founder Bootcamp focused on investment readiness and operational strengthening.
“Our research tells a story that the market has long ignored – 40% of founders across Africa are building strong products but losing ground where it matters most: sales and client acquisition,” said Nwanne Nwonwu, Managing Partner at SBP Ventures. “SBIC exists precisely to close that gap. Through the SBIC, we are not just creating a pipeline of businesses; we are building the infrastructure that ensures those businesses have every tool they need to grow, compete, and sustain. And with a ₦20 million grand prize at stake, the urgency to prepare has never been greater.”
SBIC: The Arena Format
Following the bootcamp, challengers will get on stage to compete across 10 episodes of the Live TV Series. The format tests endurance through four distinct rounds: Fire Pitch, Peer Battle, Market Proof, and Scale Master—the latter being a high-pressure due diligence session with a panel of industry judges.
The season will culminate in a Live Grand Finale in October 2026, where episode winners will battle for the ₦20,000,000 Grand Prize in front of a live audience and a dedicated Investor Deal Room.
“SBIC is where structured preparation meets public validation,” added Tanho Attah, Co-Covener of the Small Business Innovation Challenge. “We are creating order within Nigeria’s fragmented SME landscape. Entrepreneurs stepping into the ‘Scale Master’ round will face the same questions asked in real boardrooms. We are building a stage for those who are serious about scaling – and we are putting ₦20 million behind that belief.”
SBIC: Partnership and Deal Flow
The platform has structured multiple pathways for corporate involvement, including Title, Lead, and Episode Sponsorships, as well as a dedicated Fund & Deal Room. Partners gain access to a curated pipeline of vetted, investment-ready businesses, aligning with SBP Ventures’ mission to drive sustainable economic outcomes.
