Ogun State has paid a solemn and heartfelt tribute to one of Nigeria’s most revered industrialists and community leaders, Chief Olatunde Abudu, who passed away at the age of 96 in Abeokuta last week.
At the eight-day Fidau prayers held in his honour on Monday, prominent dignitaries, including Governor Dapo Abiodun and former governors Olusegun Osoba and Ibikunle Amosun, gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of a man who left an indelible mark on Egbaland, Ogun State, and the nation at large.
Representing Governor Abiodun at the event, Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele described Chief Abudu as a man of profound influence and unwavering dedication. “He was a towering figure in Nigerian industry and a champion of education whose passion for human capital development uplifted countless lives and institutions,” she stated.
Governor Abiodun hailed Abudu as a beacon of discipline, excellence, and public spirit whose legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of Abeokuta. From education to entrepreneurship, the late industrialist was known for pioneering initiatives that empowered communities and transformed lives. “There is hardly any transformative initiative in Abeokuta that does not bear his imprint,” the governor noted.
A distinguished Egba chief, Chief Abudu held the revered titles of Mayegun of Egbaland, Seriki of Oke Ona Egba, and Patron of Abeokuta Club. His legacy includes the establishment of schools, nurturing of businesses, and mentorship of emerging leaders—a testament to his lifelong belief in education and community-driven progress.
Former Governor Olusegun Osoba remembered him as a humble yet impactful leader. “He was a man of many contributions who lived for the advancement of Egbaland, bringing numerous industries into the city,” Osoba said, adding that Chief Abudu’s vision continues to influence Ogun State’s economic landscape.
Echoing similar sentiments, Senator Ibikunle Amosun prayed for divine mercy upon the late icon. “Chief Abudu was not only a pioneer industrialist and philanthropist but a force of positivity in Ogun State and Nigeria. May Allah grant him Aljanah Firdaus,” Amosun said.
As prayers were offered and tributes poured in, one message remained clear: Chief Olatunde Abudu’s life was one of service, vision, and transformative impact—an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.
