A pivotal gathering of Nollywood’s most influential figures is set to challenge the industry’s fundamental metrics for success. The upcoming 5th Peace Anyiam-Osigwe Nigeria Digital Content Regulatory Conference (PAO NDCRC), organized by the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), will serve as a strategic workshop aimed at moving the industry “From Volume to Value.”
Dr. Shaibu Husseini, the NFVCB’s Chief Executive, framed the conference not just as a discussion, but as a necessary intervention. He revealed that the two-day event in Lagos will assemble a coalition of filmmakers, tech innovators, investors, and regulators to architect a unified future for Nollywood in the digital era.
“We must collectively address what we are not doing right,” Dr. Husseini stated pointedly. “The era of celebrating sheer output volume is behind us. Our collective mission now is to engineer a shift towards sustainable value—in our storytelling, our production quality, and our business models.”
A central pillar of this transformation is financial innovation. The conference will actively workshop alternative funding models, moving beyond traditional reliance on grants and loans. “We are bringing in experts to explore avenues like crowdfunding,” Husseini explained, signaling a push for greater financial independence and community-backed projects.
This industry-led push is poised to be amplified by government support. Dr. Husseini highlighted the Federal Government’s Creative Economy Development Fund (CEDF), overseen by Minister Hannatu Musawa, as a key enabler for critical infrastructure, including studio construction and script development.
Furthermore, the conference will tackle the technological frontier, with dedicated sessions on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) in film production and scriptwriting. “We’ve seen early experiments with AI in local films,” Husseini noted. “Our goal is to dissect both the opportunities and the challenges it presents for enhancing our content’s global competitiveness.”
The event will also honor the foundation upon which this future will be built, with recognition awards for Nollywood veterans whose pioneering work made this next chapter of growth possible.
