In a bold step to reshape the narrative about Nigeria and celebrate the nation’s resilient spirit, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has partnered with media advocate and Founder of the Akin Fadeyi Foundation, Akin Fadeyi, to launch the inspiring initiative, “Nigeria Happens to Me.”
This project seeks to highlight the untold stories of everyday Nigerian entrepreneurs who, despite overwhelming odds, continue to thrive in business, creativity, and innovation.
A New Narrative for Nigeria
Sharing his thoughts on the project via his official Facebook page, Akin Fadeyi remarked:
“Nigeria can happen to us in many ways. While our national story includes countless social challenges, there is also resilience, hope, and excellence. We must tell those stories too.”
Fadeyi, known for the widely acclaimed “Corruption Not in My Country” campaign launched in 2016, has long championed national reorientation. Over the years, he has collaborated with key institutions like:
-
NOA (2016)
-
Nigerian Police (2017)
-
ICPC (2016)
-
FRSC, with whom he launched the anti-corruption reporting app FlagIt in 2019.
These partnerships reflect his unwavering commitment to using media as a tool for civic engagement and national transformation.
Bringing Unsung Heroes to Light
Speaking on the new initiative, Fadeyi praised the NOA Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, for his vision and passion:
“The DG of NOA is deeply committed to changing the narrative. He understands the power of showcasing Nigerians who rise above the challenges to succeed. They deserve the spotlight that can grow their influence and businesses.”
Southwest Rollout Begins
The pilot phase of the project is set to launch in Lagos, coordinated by Tukur Adedeji Mustafa and the NOA Director. In Osun State, Stephen Adebiyi will lead the effort. The plan is to cover all Southwest states, featuring interviews with extraordinary, yet often overlooked, Nigerians.
“We will visit state after state until the entire Southwest has been covered,” Fadeyi affirmed. “These interviews will bring attention to Nigerians achieving greatness despite adversity.”
Amplifying Possibility
“Nigeria Happens to Me” is more than a campaign—it’s a movement. One that reframes the national dialogue by celebrating resilience, creativity, and the tenacity of ordinary citizens. In the midst of a challenging socio-economic climate, it’s a rallying call to recognize the light shining through the cracks.
