Nigeria will be represented at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is set to engage in a series of high-level meetings between September 22 and 28, 2025.
The week-long gathering, which marks the UN’s 80th anniversary, will bring together world leaders for debates, policy dialogues, and international cooperation. Vice President Shettima will stand in for President Bola Tinubu during Nigeria’s participation.
On September 24, Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s address to the UNGA, highlighting the country’s priorities and foreign policy direction. He will also participate in the UN Secretary-General’s Leaders’ Climate Summit the same day, where Nigeria is scheduled to unveil fresh Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Climate Agreement.
Beyond climate issues, the Vice President has been invited to a global roundtable on affordable housing hosted by the President of Kenya, as well as several bilateral meetings with international partners.
Following the conclusion of UNGA, Shettima will travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for discussions with executives of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
