Dr. Mayowa Olusoji, a globally recognised author, speaker, and digital finance expert, has projected a monumental shift in Nigeria’s financial ecosystem by 2035, driven by mass adoption of digital assets, AI, and decentralized finance (DeFi).
In a recent interview, Dr. Olusoji forecasted that stablecoins and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs)—such as Nigeria’s eNaira and China’s e-CNY—will account for 50% of global transactions within the next decade, citing data from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS, 2024). He emphasized that Nigeria’s early embrace of CBDCs positions it as a future regional leader—but only if the nation strengthens financial literacy to match the pace of innovation.
With over two decades of experience in investment banking and financial strategy, Dr. Olusoji stressed the need for robust education systems. He advocated for learning management systems (LMS) that teach fundamentals of digital wallets, blockchain technology, and secure cryptocurrency investments.
Key Predictions for Nigeria’s Exponential Financial Age:
-
Digital Currency Dominance:
CBDCs and stablecoins will become the standard for transactions, with secure, regulated crypto investments becoming mainstream. -
AI-Powered Wealth Management:
AI will transform investment strategies, enabling retail investors to use robo-advisors like Betterment or Wealthfront, projected to manage over $1 trillion in assets by 2035. LMS platforms should offer modules on AI budgeting and stock analysis, tailored for Nigeria’s expanding middle class. -
Rise of Decentralised Finance (DeFi):
Platforms such as Aave and Uniswap are expected to handle 20% of global lending, challenging traditional banks through peer-to-peer models and smart contracts. While offering greater inclusion, DeFi also introduces risks such as fraud and hacking. Nigerian learners must be equipped with real-world case studies, including insights from local fintechs like Flutterwave, to understand both potential and pitfalls.
Dr. Olusoji has developed a thought framework called the “ABCDE of the Exponential Age,” which outlines how disruptive technologies and shifting global paradigms are reshaping financial systems. He believes Nigeria must urgently embrace practical education to remain competitive.
“Wealth creation is being rewritten. Without knowledge, you’ll be left behind. With it, you can lead,” he stated.
A staunch advocate for practical financial empowerment, Dr. Olusoji is the founder of Power2Know, an educational platform focused on financial independence. He holds an MBA from Leeds Metropolitan Business School (UK) and is a certified NFEC Financial Education Instructor.
