Despite rising global tensions and recent U.S. tariff measures, Nigeria has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to a robust and strategic partnership with the United States.
This reassurance came from Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, during the 65th Anniversary Celebration of the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce (NACC), which also marked the inauguration of its new president, Sheriff Balogun.
A Deep and Enduring Relationship
Speaking at the event, Dr. Oduwole emphasized the long-standing economic and human ties between the two nations.
“The relationship between Nigeria and the United States is not only historic but deeply strategic. Even in turbulent times and economic uncertainty, we remain steadfast in our commitment to strengthening this bond,” she stated. “The Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce plays a vital role in sustaining and expanding these connections.”
A New Era of Leadership and Vision
Taking the reins as the new NACC president, Sheriff Balogun delivered a heartfelt speech centered on vision, responsibility, and growth.
“I accept this role with deep humility and gratitude. Our path forward is built on three pillars: expansion, innovation, and measurable impact,” he said.
Key highlights of Balogun’s vision include:
-
Expanding the Chamber’s Reach: Establishing new chapters across Nigeria and the U.S., building on the current branches in Maryland, Atlanta, and Houston.
-
Driving Impact Through Support: Creating more opportunities for MSMEs, improving access to finance, and fostering entrepreneurship.
-
Strengthening Trade and Diplomacy: Facilitating high-level engagements with U.S. businesses and government to increase Nigerian exports and investments.
A New Home for a Bigger Mission
In a bold step towards the future, Balogun announced the beginning of efforts to build a permanent headquarters for the Chamber.
“This new centre will be the heartbeat of our mission—a space to cultivate the next generation of Nigerian entrepreneurs and leaders. It will stand as a symbol of our resilience and ambition.”
Celebrating Excellence in Bilateral Progress
The grand ceremony featured the presentation of awards to several individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to Nigeria-U.S. relations. The event was attended by prominent figures, including state governors, royal dignitaries, the U.S. Ambassador’s representative, and the Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands.
