Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians of a stable and sustainable power supply nationwide. During an inspection visit to the Calabar power plant of Niger Delta Power Holding Company on Tuesday, Adelabu stated that the Federal Government is committed to reforming the power sector to ensure stability.
He noted that energy demands have increased, and the government is working tirelessly to meet these demands. Adelabu urged associates in the oil and gas sector to be proactive, as the President Bola Tinubu administration is set to address issues in the sector effectively.
The Minister emphasized the critical role of the power sector in the government and national economy, highlighting the President’s directive to assess the functionality of all power plants. He expressed satisfaction with the Calabar Power Plant’s performance, encouraging power installation and generation.
Adelabu warned that the Federal Government is reforming the sector for optimal power generation and distribution, and players must be proactive. He mentioned that the privatisation of the plant to the Cross River State government is before the Federal Privatisation Council and Federal Executive Council.
Cross River State Commissioner for Power and Energy, Eka Williams, expressed the state government’s readiness to take over and efficiently run the firm, citing available expertise. Managing Director of the firm, Chiedu Ugbo, highlighted the need for more sub-transmission power stations and expressed concern over vandalism, urging citizens to desist from such acts.
