Zonkwa — In a move aimed at boosting grassroots enterprise, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung has provided business equipment to 500 youth and women entrepreneurs across the eight local government areas of Kaduna South Senatorial District.
The distribution, held in Zonkwa, saw beneficiaries receive refrigerators, generators, and industrial sewing machines — tools designed to strengthen small-scale businesses and create ripple effects of economic growth.
The initiative was implemented in collaboration with the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) and coordinated by Simon Arabo, Director-General of the defunct SMK 2023 campaign organisation, who represented the senator at the event.
Arabo explained that the scheme was focused on equipping existing entrepreneurs with essential tools to expand operations, stressing that the selection process was deliberately non-partisan to ensure fairness and inclusivity. “Beneficiaries should use these resources wisely and pass on the benefits to others in their communities,” he urged.
Chairman of the Distribution Committee and former House of Representatives Minority Leader, Gideon Lukas Gwani, praised the senator’s commitment to youth and women empowerment, noting that the transparent process ensured that only genuine entrepreneurs, regardless of political affiliation, were selected.
For beneficiaries like Hajiya Maimuna Adamu from Jema’a LGA and Mohammed Zakaria from Kachia LGA, the gesture is more than charity — it’s an economic lifeline. Both said the industrial sewing machines they received would enable them to take on larger tailoring contracts, expand their client base, and create job opportunities for others.
