What began years ago as a humble grill on a Lagos street has now become a movement of empowerment. Sooyah Bistro, the beloved Nigerian food brand, has stepped beyond the boundaries of the kitchen to light up the dreams of young entrepreneurs through its new initiative — “Sooyah Dreams.”
The programme, which ran in early September 2025, wasn’t just about handing out cheques — it was about rewriting the story of what’s possible when courage meets opportunity. Over half a million naira was awarded to promising innovators across Nigeria who are daring to turn small ideas into thriving ventures.
At a colourful gathering inside Sooyah Bistro’s Oniru outlet, the energy in the room reflected what the initiative stands for — possibility. Victoria Orleans, whose poultry business doubles as a lifeline for children with special needs, took home the grand prize of ₦250,000. The first runner-up, Nwokolo Blessing, a private chef reimagining local Nigerian flavours, received ₦150,000, while other finalists shared an additional ₦100,000 in grants.
For Sooyah Bistro’s founder and CEO, Olamidun Ogundoyin, this project is deeply personal. She knows what it means to start small — after all, Sooyah Bistro began with just ₦20,000 and a single grill.
“Sooyah Dreams isn’t just a campaign,” she said during her address. “It’s a promise to those who dare to start, even when the odds seem impossible. Every big idea begins as a spark — we’re here to keep that flame alive.”
Ogundoyin revealed that Sooyah Dreams will become a yearly tradition, part of the company’s growing commitment to youth empowerment. Beyond the funding, winners will receive mentorship and exposure to help them navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship.
For the participants, the competition became more than a contest — it was a source of validation and community. Many described the experience as a reminder that success is built not just on profit, but on purpose.
Sooyah Bistro’s evolution from a small food stall to a national brand mirrors the very vision it now promotes: building businesses that blend passion with impact. The company believes that when local entrepreneurs are supported, the entire economy thrives.
As the event ended, one message echoed through the crowd — that every great success starts with a single step, and with the right support, small beginnings can grow into legacies. Sooyah Bistro, through Sooyah Dreams, is proving that it’s not just serving meals anymore — it’s serving hope, one dream at a time.
