Entrepreneurs across Nigeria’s southwest are lauding First City Monument Bank (FCMB) for its Business Empowerment, Sustainability, and Training (BEST) Masterclass programme, which has proven to be a game-changer for their businesses. The latest phase of the initiative concluded in March 2025, offering practical insights that participants believe have transformed their approach to business.
Training Across Five States
From March 12 to 21, 2025, FCMB delivered a comprehensive training programme aimed at enhancing key business skills, including financial management, digital marketing, business planning, and sustainable growth practices. The BEST Masterclass touched entrepreneurs in Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Kwara states, providing valuable resources to improve their operations and reach sustainable growth.
Real Impact on Local Entrepreneurs
For many participants, the programme exceeded their expectations. Jide Olaniyi, a small business owner from Kwara, admitted he was initially unsure of the benefits he would gain. However, after attending the course, he expressed how it reshaped his business operations. “I left with a deeper understanding of how to structure my business and apply digital tools. I’m already seeing positive changes,” he shared.
Patricia Simisola from Ogun was also thrilled with the impact of the training. “The new skills I gained were invaluable, but the free business registration support from FCMB was a real bonus. It gave me the push I needed to formalize my business,” she added.
Networking and Decision-Making Insights
Participants also emphasized the value of networking with other entrepreneurs. Dolapo Olayiwola from Oyo, who attended the training there, said, “It changed how I approach decision-making. I now have a clearer idea of how to grow without losing focus.”
FCMB’s Divisional Head of Business Banking, George Ogbonnaya, explained that the bank’s aim with the BEST programme is not just to offer financial support but to help entrepreneurs build sustainable and scalable businesses. “Our commitment goes beyond funding. We want to equip entrepreneurs with the tools, education, and mentorship needed to thrive,” he said.
Expanding Reach and Offering More Support
Since its inception in 2018, the BEST Masterclass has already impacted hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs nationwide, and FCMB plans to extend the programme even further. With a focus on inclusive growth, the bank is committed to providing entrepreneurs with not just financial support, but also education, mentorship, and access to essential business infrastructure.
