Canon Central and North Africa (CCNA), in collaboration with Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR), has officially launched the second season of its acclaimed ‘Women Who Empower’ programme—an initiative designed to equip women in Nigeria’s imaging and print industries with the skills, confidence, and mentorship needed to thrive.
Launched at Hive by Zen, a cutting-edge creative studio founded by Canon Ambassador Emmanuel Oyeleke, the event welcomed 20 talented women selected for this season’s programme. The event also marked a celebration of the International Women’s Day 2025 theme: “Accelerate Action,” aligning with Canon’s mission to empower diverse communities and foster creativity.
Building Confidence Through Creativity
Speaking at the launch, Somesh Adukia, Managing Director of Canon Central and North Africa, emphasized the transformative power of creativity:
“Through ‘Women Who Empower,’ we’re not just providing technical training—we’re nurturing confidence, building industry networks, and creating pathways for women to advance in their creative careers. Our continued partnership with WISCAR reflects our dedication to diversity, inclusion, and the future of Nigeria’s creative industry.”
Programme Overview: From Skills to Strategy
Running from April 22 to June 5, 2025, Season 2 of Women Who Empower features three intensive modules focused on real-world application:
-
Photography & Print Module
Led by Emmanuel Oyeleke, this track will dive into photography basics, visual storytelling, and practical shooting techniques. Participants will also explore business trends and entrepreneurial strategies in the digital printing industry. -
Content Creation Module
Directed by Canon Ambassador Daniel Ehimen, this module focuses on video content creation, editing, and monetization—empowering participants to turn their creativity into income.
Each module includes two theory and two hands-on sessions, enriched by interactive photo and video walks, allowing participants to apply their skills in real-world scenarios. The programme will culminate in a closing showcase, where the women will present their portfolios and receive formal recognition.
Empowering a New Generation of Creatives
Canon’s collaboration with WISCAR signals a long-term vision: to create a more inclusive and dynamic creative industry in Nigeria. By combining technical training, mentorship, and networking opportunities, the initiative provides a launchpad for female creatives to scale their careers in traditionally male-dominated sectors.
“This partnership has truly been a force for good,” said Amina Oyagbola, Founder and Chairperson of WISCAR.
“Together, we’re breaking barriers, fostering talent, and creating a space where women can flourish as leaders in the imaging and print industries.”
Canon’s Commitment to Diversity and Innovation
Guided by its global philosophy of ‘Kyosei’—living and working together for the common good—Canon continues to invest in initiatives that blend innovation with inclusivity. Women Who Empower is more than a campaign; it’s a movement to redefine the creative landscape in Africa through mentorship, collaboration, and community building.
As Season 2 gets underway, the initiative promises to inspire a new generation of storytellers, content creators, and entrepreneurs poised to leave their mark on Nigeria’s evolving creative economy.
