Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has hailed the inaugural “Made in Benue Products Exhibition” as a powerful statement on the modernization and industriousness of local entrepreneurs. Speaking at the IBB Square Makurdi, the venue of the exhibition, on Wednesday, the governor emphasized that the event signifies a significant step in the state’s economic rejuvenation and industrial advancement.
“This exhibition brings our entrepreneurs’ productions to the public spotlight, showcasing their potential to sponsors, investors, and the broader market,” Gov. Alia said.
A Breakthrough for Economic Growth
The governor highlighted the challenges his administration inherited, including years of neglect and infrastructural decay. However, he reaffirmed his commitment to resuscitating dormant industries and establishing new ones as part of the state’s economic transformation. “Despite these challenges, we remain committed to restoring industries and fostering new initiatives that will create jobs and reduce reliance on external markets,” he stated.
The Role of Benue Investment and Property Company
Gov. Alia credited initiatives such as the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC), which played a key role in establishing mini-industries across the state. These initiatives are already yielding positive outcomes in terms of job creation and reducing dependency on external markets.
Call for Investment and Self-Reliance
The governor called on the Federal Government and corporate bodies to invest in local enterprises, emphasizing that such support would help empower communities and foster self-reliance. He expressed confidence that Benue entrepreneurs have the capability to compete globally in any market, given the right resources and backing.
Highlighting Local Products
The exhibition showcased products crafted primarily from local raw materials, illustrating the region’s potential to develop a self-sufficient industrial base. With the right support, Benue could become a hub for local manufacturing, reinforcing the state’s commitment to economic growth and entrepreneurial development.
Gov. Alia’s remarks underscore the importance of investing in local industries and the significant role of entrepreneurs in driving economic transformation in Benue State.
