In a bid to nurture the next generation of finance professionals, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) have partnered with Thomas Adewumi University and Landmark University to introduce the CGMA Finance Leadership Programme in Nigeria.
This innovative, digital, self-paced programme enables accounting and finance students to access comprehensive learning and assessment resources remotely. It offers a direct pathway for students to complete CIMA’s CGMA Professional Qualification, ultimately earning the prestigious CGMA designation.
The curriculum is grounded in real-world case simulations, equipping students with essential finance, accounting, business, leadership, people, and digital skills relevant for today’s dynamic professional landscape. The online format is designed to complement university studies, empowering students to build on their existing academic foundations while gaining practical experience.
Participants who successfully complete the programme and meet the practical work requirements can attain the CGMA designation and become CIMA members. This initiative allows students at Thomas Adewumi University and Landmark University to launch their professional careers while still pursuing their degrees.
Ijeoma Anadozie, associate director for Nigeria at the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, commented: “We are proud to partner with Thomas Adewumi University and Landmark University to help nurture accounting, finance, and business talent in Nigeria. Through the CGMA Finance Leadership Programme, students will gain globally recognised skills to stand out in a competitive job market and prepare for sustainable, successful careers.”
AICPA’s latest biennial report, published in October 2025, highlights a strong hiring outlook for the accounting sector, with 75% of firms that recruited in 2024 expected to maintain or increase hiring in 2025. The launch of the CGMA Finance Leadership Programme positions Nigerian students to seize these emerging opportunities and excel in the evolving world of finance.
