Adeyemi Ademola’s The BIG BUILD Company is leveraging space as an accelerant of progress for Nigerians and investors.

1.   What does ‘building beyond function’ mean to you on a personal level?

For me, building beyond function is a deeply personal philosophy. It means designing with soul. It’s about creating spaces that don’t just serve a structural or aesthetic purpose but actually elevate the human experience. A house should do more than provide shelter; it should inspire. An office should be more than desks and walls; it should energise and connect people.

Personally, I see space as a silent partner in our journey, shaping how we think, how we feel, and how we grow.

That’s what I want our buildings to do: support and accelerate life in every way possible, while honouring our relationship with nature. Our passion for greenery comAdeyemi Ademola, The BIG Build Company, BIG Buildes alive with lush spaces, natural light, integrated trees and plants. Moving beyond beauty to create harmony by reintroducing balance and wellness into the built environment.

2.     Is there a space anywhere in the world that has left a lasting impression on you or continues to inspire you?

Absolutely. The High Line in New York always comes to mind. It’s an old rail line, repurposed into an elevated urban park, and what it represents is powerful: the potential for transformation. It’s a space that blends nature, community, design, and purpose. It’s a simple, bold reminder that we don’t always need to start from scratch to create something meaningful.

Spaces like that inspire how we think at The BIG BUILD Company: functional foundations, reimagined for deeper human and ecological impact.

3.     Can you walk us through the thought process behind starting The BIG BUILD Company?

It wasn’t a sudden moment; it was something that simmered over time. I’ve worked in design, branding, business development, and construction over the past decade, and one recurring frustration I had was how often space was treated purely as real estate, rather than a force for transformation.

Homeowners are often cloistered into tight boxes without the right spatial design or amenities for a balanced, progressive life. I wanted to build something different, something human, sustainable, and scalable.

The BIG BUILD Company grew from a desire to help people live bigger lives by re-imagining the environments they move through every day with light, greenery, air, and ambition as core building blocks.

4.     What is the very first feeling you want people to have when they encounter The BIG BUILD Company spaces and buildings?

Freedom. I want people to feel like they’ve stepped into a new dimension of possibility, somewhere that reflects that their environment is finally keeping up with their ambitions.

It should feel like you can breathe easier, think clearer, and move freer. Our spaces are designed to unlock more than comfort; they unlock confidence. We want your shoulders to drop, your senses to light up, and your aspirations to feel closer. That emotional shift, you know that quiet “Yes, this is it”—that’s the magic we build for.

5.    What do you believe are the biggest challenges facing the construction industry today?

Without a doubt: the cost of materials, regulatory uncertainty, and the slow adoption of innovation. These challenges can delay timelines and compromise quality if not managed well.

At The BIG BUILD Company, we’re tackling these challenges by building leaner, more collaborative systems.

We use technology to streamline planning and sourcing, and we work closely with regulatory bodies from day one. We also invest in future-proof designs that reduce long-term costs and environmental impact because sustainability is no longer optional; it’s strategic. Especially in a climate like ours, greener living is not just good for the planet; it’s essential for human wellbeing.

6.     How do you see AI reshaping the way we design and build spaces?

AI is a powerful tool especially in areas like predictive design, efficiency modeling, and project management. But while AI can simulate intelligence, it can’t replicate intuition. It doesn’t know what it feels like to walk into a room and feel “home.” That’s where human-centred design comes in.

So, yes, AI will reshape how we build, but it will always need the human touch to shape how we live.

7.    When was the moment you knew it was time to launch The BIG BUILD Company?

I grew up in a large house with a big garden, tall trees, and an expansive sense of space. That upbringing shaped me. Made me believe in a limitless potential and remain optimistic even in tight spots.

My real awakening came when I was searching for my first apartment. The majority of those available were a world apart. They were compact, tight, boxed in, and devoid of soul. Suddenly, I saw what millions of Nigerians were quietly enduring every day. That contrast opened my eyes.

This wasn’t just about space; it was about dignity. I realised that good design should never be a luxury. That’s when the seed for The BIG BUILD was truly planted. I wanted to build better and bigger; not just for myself, but for every family, dreamer, and doer out there.

8.     What makes The BIG BUILD spaces different from everything else out there?

We don’t just build for the now, we build for what’s next.

We call the spaces we create: “Builds”. Our Builds are designed to evolve with the people who use them. Think: 15x more light, 5x greener, AI-integrated, multipurpose rooms that adapt to your life and work rhythms.

Every Build is a system, not just a structure. That’s what makes us different. We’re not in the business of selling square metres, we’re in the business of unlocking human potential through intelligent spatial design.

You can start your life in a Build 1 and, within a few years, grow into a Build 2, depending on how you unlock your potential for success.

9.     What was the first “yes” moment you had during the branding process?

It was when we landed on the line: “Live Big, Build BIG.”

It wasn’t just a tagline; it was a declaration. It captured everything we stand for: scale, ambition, growth, and the permission to take up space physically and metaphorically. I remember sitting with the team, reading it aloud, and we all just nodded. That was our “yes” moment.

10.     Who is The BIG BUILD Company for?

It’s for the dreamers. The builders. The people and businesses who want more from life: more light, more air, more balance. It’s for anyone who believes that where you live, work, and gather should reflect who you are and who you’re becoming. Whether you’re building your first home or designing your next HQ, The BIG BUILD is for those who refuse to settle for ordinary.

11.   What does this launch mean to you?

It means the beginning of something bigger than myself. This isn’t just about a company; it’s about a movement. A different way of thinking about real estate, architecture, and urban living in Nigeria and beyond. If someone reads this years from now, I want them to know this was the moment we chose to believe that space can be an accelerant of progress. And we backed that belief with design, grit, and purpose.

12.     Finally, who is Adeyemi Ademola?

I’m a designer of possibility. A strategist, builder, and creative mind who believes that the way we shape space is the way we shape society.

Growing up, I experienced what it meant to live in a community where greenery wasn’t just a feature, it was a way of life. Tree-lined streets, open yards, birdsong in the morning.

That early exposure taught me that space is psychological; it informs how you feel, dream, how you relate, and how you grow.

I’m driven by curiosity, grounded by values, and inspired by the people who trust us to build environments that help them evolve.

I’m here to make space for something greater, and I invite others to dream bigger with me.
