Akwa Ibom State is set to take center stage in Nigeria’s tourism industry as it prepares to host the 2025 Governing Council Meeting of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), an event poised to spotlight the state’s growing tourism appeal under Governor Umo Eno.
FTAN President, Mr. Nkereuwem Onung, announced during a pre-event virtual press briefing that the highly anticipated summit will take place from May 21 to 24 in Uyo. The four-day event will feature key council deliberations, a grand gala night, and guided tours of the state’s most captivating tourist attractions.
Describing Akwa Ibom as a rising tourism hub in Africa, Onung praised the state for its unique blend of cultural heritage, scenic landscapes, and forward-thinking policies that are rapidly transforming its tourism ecosystem.
Under Governor Eno’s leadership, Akwa Ibom has prioritized tourism as a driver of peace and economic prosperity. Major developments include the launch of ARISE PARK, a world-class recreational facility, the creation of a dedicated tourism committee, and the state’s active engagement in public-private partnerships aimed at accelerating infrastructure and hospitality development.
“These strategic initiatives are not only enhancing Akwa Ibom’s visibility but also creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic activity,” Onung stated.
The FTAN meeting is expected to attract tourism professionals and stakeholders from across Nigeria, offering them an opportunity to witness firsthand the potential and progress of Akwa Ibom’s tourism sector.
