Zikoko, a cultural publication under Big Cabal Media, has unveiled a powerful new docuseries titled “HER”, spotlighting the strength, resilience, and economic influence of Nigerian women across various industries.
Directed and produced by award-winning journalist Aisha Salaudeen, the series delivers deeply personal narratives through rich storytelling and evocative visuals. “HER” explores how Nigerian women are claiming space and redefining success in fields like technology, beauty, and entrepreneurship.
Real Stories of Grit and Growth
The debut episodes feature two remarkable women. The first centers on Ibukun ‘IBK’ Akinola, co-founder and Payments Director at fintech giant PiggyVest. Akinola opens up about her pivotal role in managing backend operations for a company that processed over ₦835 billion in user disbursements in 2024 alone.
The second episode highlights the transformative journey of Tara Oluwatomisin, a former professional footballer who carved out a thriving career as a henna artist, serving high-profile clients including superstar Tiwa Savage. Her story touches on perseverance and innovation in the face of Nigeria’s tough economic realities.
Beyond Representation: A New Narrative
According to Anita Eboigbe, Executive Producer of the series and COO at Big Cabal Media, the docuseries is more than a celebration—it’s a reimagining of what economic empowerment looks like for Nigerian women.
“We created ‘HER’ not just to represent women, but to challenge how society views women’s economic agency,” Eboigbe explained. “These stories are meant to inspire, resonate, and encourage younger women to pursue autonomy with confidence.”
Shifting the Story for Future Generations
“HER” forms part of Zikoko’s “Shift the Story” campaign, which seeks to reshape how financial independence and personal ambition are portrayed in Nigerian media. Through authentic storytelling, the series addresses themes of gender, ambition, class, and faith, challenging long-held stereotypes and empowering viewers to imagine new possibilities.
This docuseries stands as a bold testament to the evolving narrative of Nigerian womanhood—one marked by courage, creativity, and the power to forge new paths.
