The UK Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS) is paving the way for easier access to British markets for Nigerian businesses, according to Ms. Mujina Kaindama, the UK Head of Trade Policy for Nigeria.
Speaking during the UK DCTS Roadshow held in Kano, Kaindama explained that the initiative aims to simplify rules of origin and make compliance less burdensome for exporters. She noted that the engagement was designed to be hands-on, with participants receiving practical guidance from trade experts on how to effectively use the DCTS to grow their enterprises.
In her contribution, Dr. Adiya Ode of Propcon+ underscored the agricultural strength of Northern Nigeria, highlighting the region’s wide range of crops that hold high export potential. She emphasized that agriculture remains central to inclusive growth, employment creation, and sustainable economic transformation across the region.
“The DCTS offers a tangible route for Nigerian agribusinesses to increase exports and compete successfully in international markets,” Dr. Ode said.
Also speaking at the event, Mrs. Orji Gertrude, Director of the Investment Promotion Department at the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, revealed that Nigeria and the UK have been collaborating closely since the programme’s launch. This partnership, she said, ensures that local entrepreneurs receive the right information and resources to take full advantage of the trading opportunities the scheme presents.
The roadshow was jointly organized by Propcon+, in partnership with the Kano State Government and the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, as part of ongoing efforts to deepen Nigeria–UK trade relations and enhance export competitiveness among small and medium enterprises.
