What starts as a childhood fascination can become a blueprint for business success. For Mike Oludoyi, founder of Mo Autos, a love for cars and lessons learned at home have fueled a unique entrepreneurial journey that bridges the U.S. and Nigeria.
Based in Texas and Maryland, Mo Autos specializes in helping Nigerians purchase vehicles from the United States without the hassle of traditional dealerships. Unlike conventional car traders who rely on physical showrooms, Oludoyi created a fully digital platform that makes buying, selling, and importing vehicles seamless for clients across Nigeria.
Although Mo Autos officially launched in 2016, Oludoyi’s experience in the automotive trade spans over 13 years. The inspiration came from watching his mother skillfully manage multiple businesses while raising a family, instilling in him a keen sense of enterprise and resourcefulness.
Born into a Christian family of six in Mopa, Kogi State, Oludoyi attended St. Peter Nursery and Primary School, then Harmony Secondary School in Lokoja, before earning a degree from Salem University. He attributes much of his entrepreneurial mindset to the discipline and values his parents instilled.
Cars were more than a hobby—they were a calling. As a student, Oludoyi would spend evenings observing the street traffic, identifying every car by make and model. This early passion not only deepened his knowledge but also cultivated the ability to evaluate vehicle quality—a skill that has become central to Mo Autos’ success.
The turning point came with a personal experience: selling his old car for a profit within 24 hours of buying a new one. Recognizing the potential in facilitating similar transactions digitally, Oludoyi decided to formalize his efforts into a business.
“Mo Autos exists to make U.S. car purchases accessible to Nigerians everywhere,” he explains. “We wanted to remove barriers and provide a trusted, reliable solution that goes beyond physical dealerships.”
The journey wasn’t without challenges. Early clients were wary of transacting with an online business. However, by consistently delivering quality vehicles and dependable service, Oludoyi earned their trust. Today, satisfied customers often become brand ambassadors, referring friends and family to Mo Autos.
Patience, according to Oludoyi, has been a key ingredient to success. “Building a business takes time. Patience is crucial—whether it’s growing profits or earning customer loyalty. Mo Autos has reached a stage where both align, but it required persistence and strategic focus.”
Now, Mo Autos is a symbol of innovation and entrepreneurial vision, showing how passion, experience, and digital transformation can converge to create a thriving international business.
