LAGOS — As Nigerian organizations navigate a complex landscape of digital disruption and shifting workplace cultures, the 2025 HR Conference and Excellence Awards (HRCEA 2025) has sent a clear message: Human Resources is no longer a back-office function, but the strategic “heart” of business success.
Organized by HR Talent Hub and headlined by MIVA Open University, the two-day summit gathered global HR leaders to dissect the theme: “HR – The Heart of Business Success: Driving Purpose, People, and Performance.” The event signaled a shift toward “Human Capital 2.0,” where data-driven performance meets empathetic leadership.
Investing in the Architect: The ₦1,000,000 Grant
In a move that distinguished HRCEA from traditional ceremonial awards, the conference organizers awarded a ₦1,000,000 professional development cash grant to an active practitioner, Tijani Ogbuade.
The grant serves as a practical response to the “skills gap” within the HR profession itself. As HR leaders are increasingly expected to master AI, organizational psychology, and complex labor regulations, the cost of top-tier professional certification has become a barrier for many.
“I didn’t just win money; I’ve gained momentum,” Ogbuade remarked. “This support removes barriers to my career growth and gives me the confidence to pursue opportunities I’ve had to postpone.”
The Three Pillars of the 2025 Vision
Dr. Omotola Dayo-Adedapo, Founder of HR Talent Hub, outlined three critical areas where Nigerian HR must now lead:
-
Driving Purpose: Aligning individual employee values with the organization’s “North Star” to reduce turnover in the “Japa” era.
-
Empowering People: Moving beyond payroll to focus on mental health, continuous upskilling, and flexible work models.
-
Measuring Performance: Utilizing HR Analytics to prove that workforce satisfaction directly correlates with the bottom line.
Professional Identity and Personal Branding
Reflecting the modern digital reality, the conference provided 100 free professional headshots to career professionals. This initiative highlighted the growing importance of personal branding on platforms like LinkedIn, where an HR professional’s digital presence is often the first touchpoint for potential talent and international partners.
Bridging the Gap: MIVA Open University’s Role
The partnership with MIVA Open University underscored the symbiotic relationship between flexible, accessible education and professional excellence. Vice Chancellor Professor Tayo Arulogun emphasized that for Nigeria’s workforce to remain competitive, higher education must move at the speed of business.
“This initiative goes beyond recognition. It is about unlocking potential and equipping HR professionals with the resources they need to lead with confidence and impact,” noted Dr. Dayo-Adedapo.
