On February 4, 2026, the Niger Delta paused to celebrate one of its most influential modern leaders, High Chief (Engr.) Kestin Ebimorbowei Pondi. Known affectionately as “Daddy Kess,” the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited marked his birthday not just with festivities, but with a massive expansion of his signature humanitarian efforts.
Pondi has become a central figure in the Delta’s stability, moving beyond his role in maritime security to become a primary engine for youth entrepreneurship and food security in the region.
1. The 2026 Business Grant Initiative
Building on the success of his 2025 pilot, Pondi launched the second phase of his business empowerment program. This initiative is designed to transition young people from “creek-based” economies to sustainable, formal enterprises.
-
Expansion of Impact: In 2025, the program awarded ₦5 million each to nearly 40 beneficiaries. For 2026, Pondi has increased the cohort to 50 deserving entrepreneurs.
-
The Selection Process: Beneficiaries were selected from thousands of entries across sectors including fashion, logistics, agritech, and beauty luxe.
-
More Than Cash: Pondi emphasized that the grants are accompanied by mandatory business management training and a year of mentorship to ensure the capital is “judiciously utilized” to create jobs.
2. Alleviating Food Insecurity: The 1,000-Bag Distribution
Recognizing the immediate economic pressures on households, the celebration included a large-scale food intervention:
-
Target: Women traders and vulnerable families across communities in Delta State.
-
The Gesture: Distribution of 1,000 bags of branded rice along major transit points, such as the Warri–Sapele Road, providing immediate relief to thousands of residents.
3. National Recognition: A Message from the Presidency
The significance of Pondi’s work was underscored by a formal congratulatory message from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
-
National Security: The President praised Pondi’s “patriotic zeal” and leadership at Tantita Security, which has been credited with a 79% reduction in crude oil losses since 2022.
-
National Cohesion: Tinubu highlighted Pondi’s role as the Ibe Benimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, acknowledging him as a bridge-builder between the federal government and the host communities of the Niger Delta.
