Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) has been honoured with the prestigious title of “Major Oil Company of the Year 2023” by Energy Times, a leading Nigerian energy publication. The award recognises SNEPCo’s pioneering efforts and sustained excellence in Nigeria’s deep-water oil and gas development.
The event, which gathered key players and stakeholders in the oil and gas sector, also celebrated Mrs. Elohor Aiboni, the company’s former Managing Director, with the title of “Amazon of Nigeria’s Oil Sector 2024.” Mrs. Aiboni is currently on an international assignment in Brunei.
A Celebration of Excellence and Leadership
The awards were received on behalf of the company by Bolanle Odunayo-Ojo, SNEPCo’s Senior Operations Manager, who represented the Managing Director, Ronald Adams.
“We are honoured by these recognitions,” Bolanle remarked. “They reflect our unwavering commitment to excellence and the incredible teamwork behind every success. Our achievements are made possible through collaboration with our partners, particularly the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and regulatory bodies. These accolades motivate us to keep driving progress and innovation in Nigeria’s energy sector.”
A Legacy of Innovation: From Bonga to Bonga North
Since launching operations at Bonga in 2005—Nigeria’s first deep-water oilfield—SNEPCo has remained at the forefront of innovation and development in the oil and gas industry. The company’s impact includes not only groundbreaking oil production but also contributions to gas supply through its pipeline to the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited (NLNG) in Bonny Island.
Milestones such as the Bonga Southwest discovery in 2001 and the start of production at Bonga Northwest in 2014 have solidified SNEPCo’s status as an industry leader. In February 2023, Bonga reached a historic mark by producing its one-billionth barrel of oil, a feat that reflects both endurance and excellence. Recently, the company made headlines again with the Final Investment Decision on the $5 billion Bonga North project, marking the next phase of its deep-water legacy.
Honouring a Trailblazer: Mrs. Elohor Aiboni
The recognition of Mrs. Elohor Aiboni highlights a career defined by groundbreaking leadership. Appointed Managing Director of SNEPCo in 2021, she led several initiatives that significantly improved operational efficiency and strengthened local content development.
Under her leadership, SNEPCo also expanded its corporate social responsibility programs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, investing in education, health, and community development projects. Her role continues to influence the energy sector, both in Nigeria and abroad.
With a legacy built on innovation, strategic leadership, and impactful partnerships, SNEPCo’s latest accolades further cement its place at the pinnacle of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
