Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, officially launched the inaugural Lagos Shopping Festival – Africa’s largest 72-hour non-stop shopping extravaganza – at a vibrant ceremony held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.
Running from December 23-25, 2024, the Festival promises a one-of-a-kind shopping and entertainment experience for both residents and tourists.
In a statement by Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, the festival aims to further solidify Lagos’s position as Africa’s leading hub for commerce, creativity, and entertainment.
Omotoso highlighted that the event will deliver an unmatched shopping experience, featuring exclusive deals, discounts, music, food, fashion, dance, brand activations, and product sampling, all set against the backdrop of the festive season.
“Prepare for three thrilling days filled with incredible deals, exclusive discounts, and an unparalleled shopping experience. The Lagos Shopping Festival will feature carefully curated vendors offering fashion, electronics, beauty products, home décor, gourmet food, and more. Whether you’re searching for the perfect holiday gifts, the latest gadgets, or unique fashion finds, there’s something special for everyone,” Omotoso remarked.
The Commissioner also revealed that the Shopping Arena will include a dedicated Children’s Arcade, featuring brands like Indomie and Kellogg’s, offering a safe and supervised space for kids, with support from the Lagos State Safety Commission’s marshals, caregivers, and volunteers.
Earlier, Governor Sanwo-Olu had unveiled the Festival symbol during a courtesy visit by the event organizers and corporate sponsors on December 3, 2024. The Governor likened the Lagos Shopping Festival to major international festivals in cities like Istanbul, Turkey, and Dubai, UAE. He expressed confidence that the Festival would enhance Lagos’s stature as a top commercial hub and entertainment capital.
“The Lagos Shopping Festival is not just an event; it is a celebration of commerce and entertainment. It will support local businesses, create new opportunities, and showcase the dynamic spirit of Lagos, reinforcing our state as a hub for tourism, commerce, and entertainment in Africa,” the Governor shared on his official X (Twitter) handle.
Billed as the highlight of the festive season, the Festival will feature performances from some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, including Adekunle Gold, Wande Coal, Teni, BNXN, and rising stars like Young Jon and Ayo Maff. Renowned DJs such as DJ Neptune and DJ Six Seven will keep the energy high throughout the 72-hour event.
The organizers have assured guests of free entry to the shopping arena, while attendance at the entertainment venues will require prior registration through the festival’s website, www.lagosshoppingfestival.com, to ensure effective crowd management.
The Lagos Shopping Festival is powered by the Lagos State Government, in collaboration with Chain Reactions Africa, and supported by prominent brands including Zenith Bank, Tolaram Group, First Bank, and Guinness.
