Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has praised Jumia Nigeria, Africa’s leading e-commerce platform, for its remarkable contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s e-commerce sector and its broader economic development.

Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged Jumia’s rise to prominence, noting that the company’s growth and trajectory have firmly established it as a household name within the country’s e-commerce ecosystem. He encouraged the company not only to maintain its high service standards but also to continually work on improving them.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by Jumia Nigeria’s management to the State House in Marina, the governor reiterated the company’s strategic importance to the economic development of Lagos and Nigeria, particularly in the area of job creation. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to business growth in the state.

“Our administration has always prioritized creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. Through various initiatives, we have enhanced the ease of doing business, encouraged innovation, and driven economic growth. We will continue to support businesses and create opportunities that contribute to their success,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The governor also highlighted the Lagos State Government’s openness to collaborating with the private sector to improve service delivery, develop infrastructure, and create opportunities for residents, all while building a resilient and sustainable future. He emphasized the importance of working together with private companies to improve the lives of Lagosians.

In his remarks, Jumia Nigeria’s CEO, Sunil Natraj, expressed gratitude to the governor for creating a supportive business environment in Lagos, which has enabled companies like Jumia to thrive. He reaffirmed Jumia’s commitment to contributing to the state and the country’s development.

Natraj reflected on the company’s growth, from its humble beginnings as a tech start-up in Lagos to its current status as Nigeria’s top e-commerce platform with a presence in nine African countries. He pointed out that Jumia directly employs hundreds of Nigerians and indirectly supports thousands more as independent sales agents and partners.

He reiterated Jumia Nigeria’s commitment to delivering exceptional service, adding that the company is focused on enhancing the customer experience and simplifying the e-commerce process to make it easier for consumers to navigate and shop online.

“We aim to transform everyday life in Africa by providing easy access to goods and services at affordable prices, with a focus on expanding retail access across the country,” Natraj said.
