Seleem Adegunwa, the dynamic Managing Director and CEO of Rite Foods Limited, delivered a powerful message to students of the Nigerian University of Technology and Management (NUTM), urging them to embrace the wealth of opportunities Nigeria has to offer.
Speaking during a visit to the university’s Apapa campus on May 7, 2025, Adegunwa encouraged the students to believe in their potential, stay focused on their goals, and approach their futures with boldness and determination. He was accompanied by top executives from Rite Foods, all of whom came to share insights on building success in a challenging yet promising environment.
“Be Proudly Nigerian” – The Rite Foods Example
Drawing inspiration from his company’s own journey, Adegunwa highlighted how Rite Foods evolved from modest beginnings into a powerhouse in Nigeria’s fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry. With innovative and award-winning products like Fearless Energy Drink and Bigi soft drinks, the company has not only disrupted the market but also redefined what it means to be a proudly indigenous brand.
“We built this company here in Nigeria, with Nigerian talent, using world-class infrastructure and technology,” he said. “Our success proves that excellence is possible—right here at home.”
He cited innovations such as the first PET bottle packaging for an energy drink and the symbolic use of national elements in branding as examples of homegrown creativity that have been emulated across the industry.
Perseverance, Purpose, and Passion
Addressing the aspiring entrepreneurs and tech leaders at NUTM, Adegunwa emphasized that success does not always come at the first try. He advised students to remain resilient, explore multiple ideas, and lean into their passions.
“Your first idea may not work—and that’s okay. What matters is your ability to keep refining your approach until you find the right fit,” he said. “Stay focused, build your skills, and understand how business works before launching your own.”
Adegunwa encouraged students to align their careers with their natural strengths and interests while gaining practical experience that would prepare them for the real world.
A Legacy of Mentorship and Vision
The event concluded with high praise from Dr. Babs Omotowa, Founding President of NUTM, who described Adegunwa’s words as “discipline-inspiring” and pivotal in shaping the mindset of the next generation of Nigerian innovators.
Through this interaction, Rite Foods continues to play a critical role in youth empowerment, leadership development, and the future of Nigerian enterprise—fueling not just consumers, but the dreams of tomorrow’s business leaders.
