The Open, Distance and e-Learning Association of Nigeria (ODeLAN), in partnership with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), is preparing to host the third edition of its international conference in Abuja.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday by the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Professor Chiedu Mafiana, the event is scheduled to take place from May 14 to 16, 2025, at the NOUN Conference Centre in Jabi, Abuja. This year’s conference will revolve around the theme “Adaptive Pedagogies for the Future of Education: Connecting Learners, Technologies and Communities.”
Mafiana explained that the event will provide a platform for discussing fresh strategies and flexible teaching models aimed at reshaping education in Africa, especially through the integration of technology into Open and Distance Learning (ODL).
Recognized as a prominent platform for national and international dialogue on tech-enhanced education, the conference aims to inspire practical and interactive approaches to learning that bridge students, digital tools, and communities.
Designed to be a hybrid experience, the event will be open to scholars, educators, researchers, and education professionals from a variety of institutions including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Policymakers, government officials, industry representatives, and members of the general public are also welcome.
The agenda will feature paper presentations, workshops, and panel discussions exploring modern trends, innovations, and pressing issues in distance and digital education. It will also serve as a space for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and professional development.
Distinguished experts scheduled to deliver keynote speeches include Prof. Peter Scott, President of the Commonwealth of Learning in Canada; Prof. Mpine Makoe, Executive Dean of the College of Education at the University of South Africa; and Prof. Tayo Arulogun, Vice-Chancellor of Miva Open University in Abuja.
Previous editions of the conference were held at Babcock University, Ogun State in 2023 and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 2024, with each focusing on digital transformation and inclusivity in ODL environments.
Additionally, a pre-conference workshop will be held, highlighting a presentation on “Developing a Commonwealth Credit Transfer Framework: Micro-credentials in a Digital Age – Regional Consultative Meeting for West Africa.”
