The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has called on Corps Members to think creatively, take charge of their future, and avoid relying on others for their success.
Addressing Corps Members at both the Benue State Orientation Camp in Wannune and the Nasarawa State Orientation Camp in Magaji Dan Yamusa, Keffi, North Central Nigeria, General Nafiu emphasized the importance of proactive thinking. He urged them to seek ways to add value to themselves, which would ultimately help them succeed in the wider world and contribute to the well-being of society.
During his visit, which coincided with the SAED exhibition at the Benue camp, General Nafiu encouraged Corps Members to take full advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to become self-reliant and even create jobs for others.
He also advised them to continue with post-camp SAED training to perfect the vocational skills they had acquired during the orientation camp.
General Nafiu highlighted the success stories of previous Corps Members who embraced SAED in the past and have since established thriving businesses across Nigeria.
The NYSC DG also cautioned the Corps Members against unauthorized travel, particularly at night. He urged them to seek NYSC approval before embarking on any trips, as needed.
In her camp report to the Director-General, NYSC Benue State Coordinator Mrs. Veronica Garba mentioned that 1,576 Corps Members—comprising 724 males and 854 females—had taken the Oath of Allegiance, administered by Hon. Justice Peter Ukande. She praised the Corps Members for their commitment to SAED training, lectures, sports, and other camp activities, and noted that the effective collaboration between security agencies contributed significantly to the camp’s safety.
Similarly, the Nasarawa State Coordinator, Mrs. Salamatu Muhammad, informed General Nafiu that 2,138 Corps Members had been registered, with 1,388 deployed from Nasarawa and 750 from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
