The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has encouraged businesses, entrepreneurs, and investors to take full advantage of the simplified export processes now available through the Authority in order to unlock new business opportunities and enhance economic development.
Speaking during the NPA Special Day at the 36th Enugu International Trade Fair, themed “Developing Nigeria’s Industrial Sector/SMEs for Economic Advancement and Global Recognition,” Dantsoho emphasized the importance of trade in driving economic growth and global competitiveness.
Simplifying Export to Empower Business
The NPA MD revealed that the agency has launched Export Processing Terminals (EPTs) to streamline the export process, removing the long-standing bottlenecks and bureaucratic delays that have historically hindered Nigeria’s trade competitiveness.
“The EPTs serve as a one-stop-shop for cargo consolidation, stuffing, documentation, packaging, certification, and onward shipment. This eliminates duplications and delays that previously discouraged Nigerian exports,” he stated.
These terminals are part of a broader vision to connect value creators across Nigeria—even in remote areas—to global markets, making the country’s export chain more accessible, especially for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
Enhanced Port-Hinterland Connectivity
To further support local businesses and SMEs, Dantsoho announced that EPTs will be linked with Domestic Export Warehouses (DEWs) in partnership with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and other stakeholders. This connection will ensure seamless cargo movement from rural production points to international markets via Nigeria’s ports.
“We are simplifying our export procedures to align with the Federal Government’s ease-of-doing-business initiative, making it easier for ‘Made-in-Nigeria’ goods to reach the world,” he said.
Moving Toward Full Automation
In pursuit of transparency and efficiency, the NPA is actively working on eliminating human interface in port operations through full automation. This includes the deployment of the Ports Community System (PCS), which lays the foundation for the National Single Window (NSW)—a globally recognized standard for trade facilitation.
“The NSW connects all trade stakeholders on one platform, enabling seamless interactions and quick processing at the click of a button,” Dantsoho explained.
Strategic Role of Enugu in Export Expansion
Dantsoho applauded the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines & Agriculture (ECCIMA) for organizing a globally attractive trade fair, noting that Enugu’s location as a gateway to the South-East offers strategic export opportunities.
He encouraged fair attendees to engage with the NPA’s Business Development Team at their pavilion and explore available growth tools via the Authority’s official website: www.nigerianports.gov.ng.
“Our doors are open to collaboration beyond the Trade Fair. We are proud to be partners in national development and economic prosperity,” he said.
With ongoing efforts to streamline export operations, integrate automation, and enhance connectivity, the NPA is positioning itself as a catalyst for Nigeria’s industrial growth and global market relevance, especially for SMEs looking to scale beyond borders.
