Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to a strategic partnership with Swedish tech giant Ericsson, signaling a renewed push to accelerate the country’s digital transformation.
During a recent meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima pledged swift action on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier in 2024. The MoU aims to deepen collaboration on key technology-driven initiatives between Nigeria and Ericsson.
Ericsson: A Foundational Partner in Nigeria’s Tech Journey
Speaking during a courtesy visit from Ericsson executives led by Mr. Patrick Johansson, Senior Vice President and Head of Market Area for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, VP Shettima described Ericsson as a critical ally in Nigeria’s tech evolution.
“Ericsson has been instrumental in laying the groundwork for Nigeria’s digital ecosystem,” Shettima said. “We appreciate your consistency and commitment to innovation and enterprise development in our country.”
He also praised Ericsson’s support for innovation hubs and SME empowerment, noting that these initiatives play a major role in building local capacity and driving youth entrepreneurship.
Nigeria’s Tech-Driven Future
Vice President Shettima emphasized the importance of leveraging Nigeria’s youthful, tech-savvy population, urging Ericsson and other global players to take advantage of the country’s immense human and economic potential.
“The future is Nigeria,” he declared. “With several African unicorns already rooted here, we are poised for even greater digital breakthroughs.”
Ericsson Reaffirms Commitment to Nigeria
In response, Mr. Patrick Johansson reiterated Ericsson’s enthusiasm for partnering with Nigeria to foster sustainable development through technology.
“We are committed to supporting local innovation and nurturing entrepreneurship. Nigeria remains a key market in our global strategy,” Johansson stated.
Also speaking at the event, Majda Kassi, Ericsson’s Vice President and Head of Customer Units for West and South Africa, described Nigeria as a pivotal market in the company’s legacy. She emphasized that Ericsson is not just investing in infrastructure but also in cultivating a strong digital culture across the nation.
Driving Innovation Through Collaboration
This renewed alliance between Nigeria and Ericsson is expected to fuel:
