Leading real estate professionals and policymakers gathered on Friday for the fourth annual Veritasi Realtors Conference, where they explored innovation, investment strategies, and the evolving real estate landscape in Nigeria.
The conference featured a distinguished panel, including Dr. Jubril Salaudeen (Business Strategist, Lagos Business School), Bola Raheem (Ministry of Physical Planning & Urban Development), Gbenga Osowe (CEO, Buyletlive), and Tobi Yusuff (Partner, Veritasi Homes and Properties). Together, they discussed the theme: “Navigating the Future of Real Estate: Innovation, Investment & Impact.”
Government’s Digital Transformation in Real Estate
Addressing the Lagos State government’s efforts to modernize the sector, Bola Raheem highlighted initiatives aimed at integrating technology into real estate processes. Key among these reforms is the Electronic Planning Permit (e-Permit) system, which will enable developers to apply for building approvals online—eliminating the delays of physical applications.
Beyond digitalization, Raheem revealed that Lagos State is reviewing zoning regulations to align with market realities, particularly reconsidering height restrictions that currently limit development potential. He emphasized the government’s commitment to updating the National Building Code to accommodate innovations like smart buildings and technology-driven real estate solutions.
Why Real Estate Remains a Prime Investment
Dr. Jubril Salaudeen reinforced real estate as a powerful tool for wealth creation and inflation protection.
“There is never a time when investing in real estate results in a total loss. At worst, you regain your capital; at best, you enjoy significant returns that keep you ahead of inflation. Real estate is not just an investment—it is a path to building generational wealth,” he stated.
The Evolving Role of Realtors in a Competitive Market
Tobi Yusuff emphasized that modern investors seek more than property listings—they want strategic advisors who understand the economy and can guide them toward maximizing their returns.
“To stay competitive, realtors must analyze economic trends and investor priorities. The right investment strategy may not be purchasing a full house but acquiring apartments for rental income or investing in commercial hubs for higher ROI,” Yusuff explained.
How Technology is Reshaping the Real Estate Industry
Gbenga Osowe underscored the transformative role of technology in real estate, noting that it has empowered buyers with instant access to market trends, pricing insights, and property comparisons.
“Buyers now research dozens of properties before contacting an agent. By the time they reach out, they already have a clear idea of what they want, making it essential for realtors to be well-informed and prepared,” he said.
Empowering Realtors Through Knowledge and Training
The Veritasi Realtors Conference, an initiative of Veritasi Homes PLC, was launched in 2022 to enhance realtors’ professional development. Through industry insights, hands-on training, and networking opportunities, the conference brings together top facilitators, including experts from Lagos Business School, to equip realtors with the tools needed to thrive in a dynamic market.
As the Nigerian real estate sector continues to evolve, events like this ensure that industry professionals remain at the forefront of innovation and investment strategies, positioning them for sustained success.
