The Ijebu Boys’ (IJ Boys) Association has announced that its inaugural convention will shine a spotlight on local entrepreneurs, brands, and small businesses in Ijebu land, signaling a renewed push to restore the community’s historic commercial prominence.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos, Mr. Olagbuyi Oduniyi, President of the association, noted that Ijebu Ode, once a hub for industrialists and commerce, has seen its influence wane over the years. The convention, scheduled for June 2–6, 2025, aims to catalyze economic revival by creating opportunities for local businesses to engage with seasoned industry leaders and business moguls.
“In the 1970s, Ijebu stood at the forefront of commerce and industry. Today, we want to reignite that legacy,” Oduniyi said. “The convention will bring together entrepreneurs, farmers, fintech innovators, startups, and content creators, giving them the chance to learn from established Ijebu dignitaries and apply those insights to overcome business challenges.”
The five-day event will feature an economic forum and business exhibition, designed to foster dialogue, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing between emerging local enterprises and experienced business leaders.
Prince Biodun Odukoya, Chairman of the Event Planning Committee, described the initiative as a long-term commitment to community development. “We are focusing on developmental welfarism — teaching people how to fish rather than offering short-term aid. By empowering local businesses and nurturing grassroots economic growth, the convention marks the beginning of a sustained effort to strengthen Ijebu’s economy,” he explained.
With this maiden convention, the IJ Boys’ Association seeks not only to spotlight local talent but also to chart a path toward restoring Ijebu land’s reputation as a vibrant center of commerce and industry.
