Enugu State has earned glowing reviews from participants of the recently concluded Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference, with many lawyers describing the city as one of the cleanest and safest in Nigeria.
During their stay from August 22–29, delegates toured major attractions such as the Art Gallery, National Museum, Milliken Hill, and Ngwo Pine Forest, praising the state’s hospitality, infrastructure, and serene environment.
For Stephen Medaiyedu of the Abuja Bar, the state’s transformation under Governor Peter Mbah was particularly striking. He noted that within just two years, the administration had delivered significant infrastructure, while successfully relocating and hosting the conference within four months of planning.
“The transport system is well-organised, the security gave us no cause for fear, and the hospitality was exceptional,” Medaiyedu said, adding that most delegates left with memorable experiences.
Others echoed the same sentiment. Bauchi-based lawyer Samir Mohammed Adamu described Enugu as “green, peaceful, and welcoming,” while Ozor Nnadume Aforkansi of the Ezeagu Branch suggested the city would now be considered for more NBA events.
Tourism advocates also underscored the state’s rising profile. Tour guide Wilson Uche Ugwe, Vice President of the Federation of Tourism Association of Nigeria (FTAN), applauded the governor’s ₦13 billion investment in the tourism sector, pointing to ongoing projects such as transport terminals, CNG buses, and Enugu Air as critical enablers of growth.
Meanwhile, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Dame Ugochi Madueke highlighted upcoming attractions, including Nigeria’s first zipline, the 600 Steps to Tranquility, and expanded access to waterfalls and cultural hubs. She also noted that delegates were treated to Enugu’s famous dishes—okpa, abacha, achicha, and palm wine—as part of their cultural immersion.
With new infrastructure, improved security, and a clear strategy for tourism revival, Enugu is rapidly positioning itself not just as a conference hub, but as one of Nigeria’s most promising destinations for leisure, investment, and cultural exploration.
