At a recent event in Lagos, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi challenged Nigerians to rethink what true wealth means, stressing that the nation’s progress depends on nurturing entrepreneurs rather than glorifying money.
He shared this message while attending the launch of Ebele Obi’s book, “Just Go Further! Becoming the Total Entrepreneur,” where he lamented that many young people associate success solely with financial gain, overlooking innovation, creativity, and hard work.
“Our challenge as a country is that the younger generation believes wealth is measured by money,” Obi said. “We have people around us who have built genuine wealth through value creation, but we neither celebrate nor support them.”
Using global icons such as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates as examples, Obi emphasized that world-changing ideas often come from individuals who refused to be limited by their circumstances.
“Apple, the world’s leading tech company, was founded by someone who didn’t even complete his education,” he noted. “Steve Jobs was driven by creativity, not credentials.”
He also spoke on the need for financial literacy and responsible money management, adding that many Nigerians struggle financially because they were never taught how to plan and sustain income wisely.
The book’s author, Ebele Obi, said her motivation for writing the book was to guide aspiring entrepreneurs and show them that success comes from persistence and purpose.
“Entrepreneurship is not easy, but it’s worth the effort,” she said. “I want to encourage young people to create, build, and contribute meaningfully to the economy.”
Book reviewer Oseloka Obaze described Just Go Further! as a practical and inspiring resource for anyone interested in starting or expanding a business.
“It’s more than a motivational read,” he said. “The author’s real-life experiences make this a hands-on guide to building a successful venture.”
Obaze praised Ebele Obi for blending inspiration with actionable advice, calling the book a powerful tool for emerging entrepreneurs determined to make a lasting impact.
