Nigeria’s top editors are gearing up for a major national discourse as the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) prepares to host its 2025 All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC) in Abuja this November. The gathering, which unites over 500 leading minds in journalism, governance, and academia, will focus on strengthening democratic values and national unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
A highlight of the event will be the participation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who will officially declare the conference open on November 12, 2025, reaffirming his administration’s engagement with the media as a critical pillar of democracy.
Themed “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors,” this year’s conference aims to redefine how journalism can drive stability and trust in a polarized society. Discussions will cut across governance, judicial integrity, media innovation, and national security — reflecting the Guild’s commitment to responsible journalism and informed leadership.
Among the distinguished speakers are Prof. Awa Kalu (SAN), Prof. Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim, Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, and Gen. Lucky Irabor (rtd), who will lead sessions on electoral justice, policy reform, the evolution of digital journalism, and the media’s role in countering terrorism.
According to NGE President Eze Anaba and General Secretary Onuoha Ukeh, the conference — initially slated for an earlier date — was shifted due to logistical factors beyond the Guild’s control. However, they assured members that the adjustment will not affect the depth or scope of the discussions.
An Executive Session scheduled for the second day will feature direct engagement between editors, government representatives, and business leaders on emerging national challenges.
For the NGE, ANEC 2025 is more than just an annual meeting — it is a forum where the nation’s storytellers confront the questions shaping Nigeria’s democratic future.
