At the heart of this shift is a new government-backed grant initiative that’s equipping business owners with both funding and the knowledge to scale. The programme, spearheaded by the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI) under the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, is giving micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) the tools to strengthen their operations, enhance marketing, and compete more effectively.
During the event, Mrs. Joy Obiefuna, Centre Manager of the Technology Incubation Centre, emphasized that the grants were carefully targeted at businesses rooted in Edo State to ensure the benefits ripple through the local economy. She described the initiative as a catalyst for productivity and innovation, one that could transform traditional enterprises into digital-age success stories.
Entrepreneurs are already taking note. Abdulazeez Ibrahim, CEO of AI Robotics, speaking for the beneficiaries, expressed excitement over the opportunity to innovate locally. He credited the Edo State Government, led by Senator Monday Okpebholo, for creating an environment where small businesses can thrive beyond survival and into scalable ventures.
Beyond the financial support, the event also highlighted the growing importance of digital skills and continuous learning in sustaining modern enterprises. Beneficiaries were encouraged to embrace digital tools, improve visibility through smarter marketing, and seek further training to future-proof their ventures.
With the collaboration of institutions such as the Bank of Industry, MSME development agencies, and trade associations, the initiative signals a turning point — one where Edo’s small businesses can transition from local players to tech-driven engines of inclusive growth.
