In a bold move to strengthen food security and drive economic growth, Dangote Fertiliser Limited, a subsidiary of the Dangote Industries Limited, has launched a nationwide agricultural empowerment programme that has already trained over one million farmers across Nigeria.
This comprehensive initiative is part of the company’s larger commitment to supporting small-scale agriculture, enhancing productivity, and creating employment opportunities. The training program, which incorporates field demonstrations, soil sampling, and modern fertiliser application techniques, is designed to equip farmers with the practical knowledge and tools they need to increase crop yields and adopt sustainable farming practices.
Speaking at the 2025 Nasarawa Trade Fair in Lafia, Ms. Fatima Wali-Abdurrahman, Senior Adviser to the President of Dangote Group, described the programme as a cornerstone of the company’s agricultural extension services. Represented by the firm’s National Assembly Liaison Lead, Mr. Shuaibu Abdullahi, she highlighted the initiative’s long-term goal of improving farmer productivity while promoting soil health and responsible fertiliser use.
“This programme demonstrates our unwavering commitment to agricultural development and economic empowerment in Nigeria,” Wali-Abdurrahman stated. “By offering hands-on demonstrations and soil analysis, we’re enabling farmers to achieve better harvests and more stable livelihoods.”
In addition to training farmers, Dangote Group has also partnered with the Nasarawa chapter of the Nigeria Association of Small-Scale Industrialists (NASSI) to expand awareness and strengthen small businesses.
Underscoring this broader economic support, Wali-Abdurrahman revealed that the Aliko Dangote Foundation, in partnership with the Bank of Industry (BoI), has launched a N5 billion fund to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across Nigeria. The initiative aims to create at least one million direct jobs by offering financial support to entrepreneurs in sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing, and locally made merchandise.
Beneficiaries of this fund include cassava processors, poultry farmers, cattle rearers, calabash carvers, aluminium artisans, vegetable sellers, and other local trade groups. The initiative not only provides financial relief but also empowers grassroots businesses that form the backbone of the Nigerian economy.
With these strategic efforts, Dangote Fertiliser and its parent group are playing a vital role in advancing national food security, promoting self-sufficiency, and fostering inclusive growth through practical investment in agriculture and small enterprise development.
