The narrative of a nation is often its most potent form of “soft power.” Recognizing this, Lens For Good (LFG), founded by Nosa Asemota—who serves as the Personal Photographer to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Special Assistant to the President on Visual Communications—has emerged as a pivotal force in Nigeria’s creative economy.
In early January 2026, the movement reached a new milestone with the “Stories That Move Us” conference, held at the newly restored Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts (formerly the National Theatre) in Lagos.
The Power of Authentic Narrative
The conference served as a high-level dialogue on how storytelling shapes national identity and international perception. Key speakers emphasized that Nigerian storytellers carry a “weight of responsibility” to tell authentic stories that reflect both the current values of society and its future aspirations.
Notable Speakers included:
-
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu: Highlighted the strategic importance of visual narratives in connecting global communities and promoting Lagos as Africa’s creative capital.
-
Ogiame Atuwatse III (The Olu of Warri): Shared perspectives on the intersection of culture, tradition, and modern media.
-
Eche Emole & Chika Uwazie: Hosts of the Afropolitan Podcast, focusing on the role of the diaspora in the Nigerian creative narrative.
From Inspiration to Scale: The 500,000 Target
Lens For Good is more than an event series; it is a scalable empowerment project. Launched in late 2024 with a Mentorship Mobile Web App, the initiative has set an ambitious goal to train and empower 500,000 Nigerian creatives.
The movement provides:
-
Direct Mentorship: Connecting emerging talents with icons like TY Bello, Tolani Alli, and Ademola Olaniran.
-
Institutional Support: LFG recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy to integrate its tools with the government’s Creative Leap Acceleration Programme.
-
Collaborative Ecosystems: The conference reinforced the idea that creativity thrives on partnership. As attendee Fregene Tusowumi noted, the goal is to “join perspectives to achieve something great.”
Technical and Broadcast Excellence
The scale of the “Stories That Move Us” event was matched by its technical production. Abazee Productions, a leading film equipment rental and broadcast support firm, provided the audio-visual backbone. The company, which has supported major national events like Independence Day at Aso Rock, ensured that the dialogue was captured with the same cinematic quality that the conference aimed to promote.
