In a landmark move for financial literacy on the continent, global cryptocurrency exchange Luno has teamed up with AltSchool Africa to provide comprehensive, free-of-charge digital asset education to 15,000 Nigerians. The program, dubbed “Demystifying Crypto for Africans,” is currently being recognized as the most extensive educational campaign of its kind in Africa.
As digital finance continues to evolve rapidly, the partnership seeks to transform perceived market risks into concrete economic advantages by providing a structured, formal learning path for the public.
Program Structure and Enrollment
The initiative is designed to be accessible yet rigorous, targeting adult Nigerian residents (18+) who are eager to navigate the Web3 landscape. The 15,000 learners will be divided into three distinct groups:
-
Cohort 1: Applications open January–February 2026, with classes starting in March.
-
Cohort 2: Scheduled to commence in July 2026.
-
Cohort 3: Scheduled to commence in November 2026.
To participate, applicants must hold or open a Luno account, ensuring they have a functional platform to apply their newfound knowledge.
A Curriculum Built for Practical Mastery
Led by Web3 specialist Abdulsamad Tiamiyu, the course moves beyond abstract theory into real-world utility. Spanning five core modules over a three-to-four-week period, the curriculum covers:
-
Fundamental Concepts: Understanding the mechanics of blockchain.
-
Practical Tools: Hands-on experience with digital wallets and exchanges.
-
Market Research: Learning how to use analytical tools like CoinGecko and Etherscan.
-
Stablecoins & Remittances: Exploring how crypto can facilitate global trade and savings.
-
Risk Management: Developing the literacy needed to engage with markets safely.
Participants will enjoy a full year of access to video lessons and case studies, culminating in an AltSchool Africa Certificate of Completion.
Closing the Knowledge Gap
With nearly one-third of the Nigerian population already interacting with digital currencies in some capacity, there is an urgent need for formal guidance. Ayotunde Alabi, CEO of Luno Nigeria, and Adewale Yusuf, CEO of AltSchool Africa, both emphasized that this is an investment in the nation’s human capital.
By equipping 15,000 citizens with these skills, the initiative aims to foster a generation of “economically empowered” individuals capable of utilizing cryptocurrency for entrepreneurship, cross-border payments, and long-term financial security.
