Ondo State has taken another step toward becoming a digitally driven economy, signing a strategic partnership with telecommunications giant Globacom to deploy advanced digital solutions across governance, education, security, and commerce.
At a meeting in Akure, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa described the collaboration as central to his administration’s vision of technology-powered governance and inclusive growth.
“Digital tools are no longer optional; they are essential for driving transparency, efficiency, and citizen engagement,” the governor said. He highlighted the state’s recently launched iOndo platform—an electronic tax collection system that simplifies payments—as a model of how technology can eliminate red tape, reduce human interference, and foster a more business-friendly climate.
Boost for SMEs and Entrepreneurs
Globacom’s Group Lead, Enterprise Business, Adeniyi Odejobi, said the partnership will unlock opportunities for small businesses and entrepreneurs who increasingly depend on digital platforms to survive and scale. From smart revenue systems to secure data solutions, the initiative aims to cut costs for government while opening new digital pathways for private enterprise.
A Model for Digital Governance in Nigeria
The Ondo–Globacom collaboration reflects a broader trend among Nigerian states adopting technology-led reforms to improve governance, strengthen security frameworks, and support the growth of the informal and SME sectors that drive local economies.
Analysts say the partnership could position Ondo as a model for state-level digital transformation, showing how governments can leverage telecom expertise to advance development goals while enabling citizens and businesses to thrive in a connected economy.
