New estimates suggest that Nigerian entrepreneur Tony Elumelu has officially joined the ranks of billionaires, with his net worth now estimated at $2.15 billion.

According to MoneyCentral, Elumelu’s financial standing has seen significant growth, largely due to his investments in Heirs Holdings Limited, Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp), and United Bank for Africa (UBA).

Breaking Down His Business Holdings

Through HH Capital Limited, Heirs Holdings Limited, and other personal and family assets, Elumelu holds a substantial stake in Transcorp. As of 2024, his family’s shareholding stands at 35.93%, amounting to 3.65 billion shares.

Additionally, he indirectly owns 68.39 million shares in Heirs Holdings Limited, while HH Capital Limited holds 2.99 billion shares. Another 68.27 million shares are directly under his control.

Transcorp’s share price has soared from N5.16 in March 2023 to N51 per share as of March 10, 2025. This growth has pushed Transcorp’s total market capitalization to N523.8 billion.

Beyond Transcorp, Elumelu also owns a 7.43% stake in UBA, including 195.12 million direct shares. His indirect holdings, through Heirs Holdings Limited, HH Capital Limited, and Heirs Alliance Limited, add up to 2.35 billion shares. UBA’s stock price has also seen a remarkable rise, climbing from N23 per share in March 2023 to N37.60 in March 2025.

Assessing His Billionaire Status

MoneyCentral’s analysis breaks down Elumelu’s estimated net worth across multiple investments:

  • Transcorp PLC – $125 million
  • UBA – $63.69 million
  • Heirs Energies – $1.75 billion
  • Heirs Insurance – $28 million
  • United Capital – $61.5 million
  • Real Estate – $75 million
  • Cash Reserves – $50 million

Despite these estimates, neither of the two major global billionaire indexes—Forbes and Bloomberg—have yet to update Elumelu’s net worth. While Forbes previously listed him at $1 billion in 2014, its current assessment places him at $700 million. Meanwhile, Bloomberg still only recognizes Aliko Dangote, with a net worth of $28.1 billion, as the sole Nigerian billionaire on its list.

Nonetheless, with the rapid appreciation of his assets, Elumelu may soon receive formal recognition as Nigeria’s newest billionaire.
